Secondary Service

To ensure the proper domain functioning it is necessary that not less than two DNS-servers answer the domain-related requests.

DNS-server, where the full primary information about a zone (domain) is stored, is a Primary DNS-server for that zone; other DNS-servers are Secondary, if they get full zone information from a primary DNS-server or another secondary DNS-server.

RU-CENTER offers the Secondary service to its customers. Within this service RU-CENTER provides two DNS-servers:

Name  ns4.nic.ru
IP address  194.226.96.8
Location  Moscow, MSK-IX technological ground at the territory of MITS-9 (equipment of the leading ISP and the access point of the MSK-IX traffic exchange (Moscow Internet Exchange) are located there as well)
Connectivity - connection to MSK-IX (100 Mb/sec)
- connection to MAP network (Moscow Access Point - RIPN) (100 Mb/sec)

Name  ns8.nic.ru
IP address  193.232.130.14
Location  Amsterdam (Netherlands), Data-center of Amsterdam traffic exchange point (AMS-IX) of international Internet Service Providers (ISP) in the National Institute for Nuclear Physics and High Energy Physics (NIKHEF) (equipment of the leading ISP, the access point of AMS-IX and the access point of European science and education networks Netherlight, SARA traffic exchange point are located there as well)
Connectivity - connection to AMS-IX (100 Mb/sec) through RIPN network

You may order the Secondary service:

  • for a direct zone (domain)
    you should specify a full domain name in the field "domain" in the process of ordering the service, for example:
        test.ru (or test.msk.ru, or another)
    (don't put "www" in front of the domain name)

  • for a reverse zone
    you should specify a full domain name (reverse zone) in the "domain" field in the process of ordering the service, for example:
        1.0.127.in-addr.arpa

You can't order the Secondary service:

  • for a domain name, located in a domain, which is one or several levels higher, and for which the Secondary service or DNS support within the hosting service is active, and that service is being provided to another RU-CENTER customer.
  • for a domain of general use (GEOGRAPHICAL or GENERIC type).

Additional features

Secondary service limits allow receiving the zone at the requests from IP-addresses which can be specified by the service owner independently within the framework of the service.

Notice:

The mandatory requirements to DNS-server specified as a Primary in the service options:

  • DNS-server should be adjusted to operate as a Primary DNS-server for the domain in accordance to DNS standards and connected to the Internet;
  • DNS-server adjustments shouldn't prevent zone receiving at the requests coming from IP-addresses of DNS-servers ns4.nic.ru and ns8.nic.ru adjusted as Secondary for the domain name;
  • Not accepted as IP-addresses of the Primary DNS-server:
    • IP-addresses from the private networks ranges (RFC1918):
      10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10.0.0.0/8)
      172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16.0.0/12)
      192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168.0.0/16);
    • IP-addresses from local addresses ranges (RFC1700):
      127.0.0.0 - 127.255.255.255 (127.0.0.0/8);
    • IP-address of the Secondary server itself.

After ordering the Secondary service RU-CENTER will set its DNS-servers ns4.nic.ru and ns8.nic.ru as Secondary for the specified domain name and provide their effective performance.
